Authentic Spanish cooking in the heart of Manhattan since 1925. Tapas, paella, wines from Spain, and more than a century of history behind our red door.
Spanish food in New York with more than 100 years of tradition
La Nacional opened its restaurant in 1925 as the official canteen of the Spanish Benevolent Society, and it hasn’t closed since. We’re the last remnant of the Little Spain that once existed in Manhattan, a corner where Spanish cooking is served the way it’s always been served: with ingredients brought straight from Spain, recipes passed down for generations, and the feel of a tavern that has watched more than a century go by.
1925
The year we opened, as the official canteen of the Spanish Benevolent Society.
Tapas to share, paella made with the rice and sofrito it deserves, fresh seafood, meats, and a selection of wines imported directly from Spain. The menu changes with the seasons, but the commitment to authenticity doesn’t.
